Default Double Sacrament for my little cousin

My cousin Sunil who is half British, quarter Irish Quarter Indian living in France raised Catholic and has to attend a High Anglican Sunday School as there isn't a Catholic Sunday School near him that is English speaking made his first confession Friday and first Holy Communion this Saturday

He was prepared for Holy Communion as best as he could be he understood that his friends don't believe in Transubstantiation (I don't believe I spelled that right)
but that we did and he knew what it was. He explained it to me before we went into the church. He went to Confession on Friday and had to go to the Confession boxes. He got so scared he wanted mummy to go into the box with him but the priest came out and went to the side altar and heard his confession there. Apparently he was naughty all morning so he would have something to confess.

Then after ten am mass Sunil made his first Holy Communion. Unlike the rest of the Holy Communions which are getting ridiculous and becoming as expensive as weddings with limos, sunbeds, dresses that cost the earth, hair and make up, photography and video and Heaven knows what else

Sunil's communion was basic and beautiful. He was surrounded by his family and regular church goers and the readings were the weekday mass a little difficult and he found it hard to follow but he made his communion although the host had to get stuck to the roof of the mouth. Always happens and his three year old sister threw a tantrum because she didn't get the host but mercifully calmed down quickly when she saw that my rosary beads caught the light and made "baby rainbows" so she played with them.

He did get some money but unlike the ones who go "collecting" throughout the town asking everyone for money Sunil was polite and was trilled with 30 euro when the day was finished and aunts, uncles and cousins had congratulated him he had 200 euro and was flabbergasted. His mother was laughing and said she got 12 and six for her communion. Sunil understood communion but still hasn't understood confession very well we tried to explain it to him but he said
"God sees when I am naughty. I say sorry. I mean it. God forgives me so why does the priest have to tell me to be good"
When we explained it to him he sort of got it and then said "I am not going into no boxes though"
I can't blame him I don't like the confessionals much either.

Congrats to the little ones...Sacraments are such joyful occasions.

The group of 40 8th graders that I have been catechising will be confirmed on May 8th. Some are ready and some I can only pray for.

That's wonderful, Maria!!!! I agree with you regarding the extravagences occurring during First Holy Communion. I don't know what is happening. When I made mine, a large part of my family attended and then there was a party at the house afterwards. I wore a simple white, eyelit sundress that had a little matching jacket with 3/4 length sleeves which tied in the front with a bow. All of the girls had to wear the veils provided by our school and our mothers made or bought a thing to attach the veil. Mine was just a simple flower wreath. No bridal veils or dresses. Today, I've seen some of these girls look like miniature brides.

Liza - I'm very happy for you and your father!!!! That is just beautiful news.
